Oti Cabadas: I want to show the positive sides of the truck driving profession

Spanish Truck driver Oti Cabadas has been behind the wheel of a truck for more than 12 years. For Coco Trucker Girl, as she’s known on her Instagram platform, it is more than just a profession, it’s passion: “I love everything about trucks and transportation, the racing, everything that revs. I just love it!”

The lack of truck drivers has been a big issue across Europe for many years, and with the #onetruckfamily initiative the Goodyear FIA ETRC aims to emotionalise and transfer the positive image of truck racing and its drivers to the road, and highlight some of the key challenges in the truck and road haulage industry.

The sector is affected by an unfavourable image, drivers are faced with worsening conditions and the industry is under increasing pressure to attract new workforce. The pandemic and recent fuel supply issues have underlined just how important truck drivers are in everyone’s lives for the supply of everyday items

Even though there are some improvements in the industry, there is still a lot of work to be done says Oti: “The amenities for the drivers are still very limited. I am talking about showers, rest areas and security to sleep peacefully at night. It is getting better every day, but it is still very insufficient.”

In the logistics sector women are still hugely under-represented and through her platform, Oti hopes to show the positive sides of this profession:
“My wish for the future is that there are as many women as men and to encourage more women and more young people to take up this job.”

Following her passion for racing, Oti visited the final round of the championship this year in Jarama, to support fellow countryman and local hero Antonio Albacete. “Truck racing is brilliant and I feel privileged to be able to experience it from here.”
