Goodyear FIA ETRC champion Kiss shines with Most Race 1 win
Norbert Kiss had little trouble converting pole position into victory number 11 of the 2026 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship with an accomplished drive in Race 1 at Autodrom Most.
Leading throughout the 11-lap contest for Révész Racing, the Hungarian crossed the line 5.153s ahead of José Eduardo Rodrigues as Sascha Lenz completed the podium to move into second place in the title chase behind Kiss.
“A good race for us,” said Kiss, who remains on course for a record-extending eighth Goodyear FIA ETRC title. “For sure not the best start of my life but the braking zone and entry to Turn 1 was good, so I could stay in front clearly and start to build a gap a little bit.
“Everything worked really well, the truck was consistent, the tyre was good and everything worked very well. I’m so happy with the victory, thank you to the team, Révész Racing. As ever a good job by them.
“To win a race is never easy. Of course, sometimes you are fast, and you can be a bit more confident, which today for us was the case so you could take it a little bit easy at the end. But, of course, it’s never easy because it’s all about preparation and to stay in front at the start, which is always very difficult.”
Jochen Hahn crossed the line in fourth after demoting Chrome winner John Newell in the closing stages. However, the six-time European champion is the subject of two separate investigations by race officials for incidents involving Antonio Albacete and Bradley Smith.
Having started on the Chrome category pole, Newell was elated after securing his first win of 2026. The Briton said: “We made a little change to the truck to try something and it didn’t work. But we held our position, there was no point fighting with Jochen because we wanted the Chrome points and I’m happy with what we’ve got. Winning Chrome was the objective and I’m not thinking about anything else at the moment. It was a good clean start and that was key.”
René Reinert got the better of home hero Adam Lacko with a pass at Turn 20 on the penultimate lap for sixth place as Lukas Hahn secured second spot in the Chrome category and pole position for Race 2 in eighth.
Describing following the battling Lacko and Reinert in close proximity for several laps, Lukas Hahn said it was “like a cinema to watch”. He added: “It was a good race, a little bit of trouble in the front but I tried to stay safe because I want a good result in the end and I’m really happy. It was like a cinema to watch them, sometimes you don’t need to push, wait and maybe somebody makes a mistake.”
The recovering Smith finished ninth to complete the Chrome podium ahead of Chrome champion Mark Taylor, who was handed a 10-second penalty for contact with Steffen Faas, which caused the German driver to retire his Freightliner with damage.
Mercedes-powered Luis Recuenco finished 11th followed by the delayed Albacete and Finn Emma Mäkinen. Christian Ruppert, who is making his first start of the season in the Goodyear FIA ETRC, finished 14th as Luke Garrett rounded out the top 15 after a drive-through penalty.
Steffi Halm retired leaving the start with a mechanical issue.
