He’s back! Mäkinen returns for Goodyear FIA ETRC season finale

Truck racing legend Mika Mäkinen makes his return to the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship during this weekend’s season finale with his expectations very much in check.

Although Mäkinen was an FIA ETRC winner in the past, his return at Circuito de Madrid Jarama – RACE, when he takes over daughter Emma Mäkinen’s IVECO, is “just for fun”.

“I like truck racing and Emma couldn’t drive here so I have come here,” the multiple Finnish champion explained. “I’m here just for fun, there are no expectations.”

Asked if he would be tempted to do more Goodyear FIA ETRC races in 2027, the Mad-Croc-backed Mäkinen said: “We’ll see about that next year.”

Mäkinen last raced in the FIA ETRC in 2019 although Emma Mäkinen, after making a one-off appearance at the Nürburgring in 2022, took part in two rounds this season, again at the Nürburgring and also at Autodrom Most in late August.

“I think it’s great that he’s going racing again after so many years away,” Emma Mäkinen said of her father’s ETRC comeback. “I also think it will be really useful for me, as he’ll get to know the truck better and hopefully be able to help me with the set-up and with getting more familiar with the truck myself. I’ll be watching the live stream from Finland as much as I can between work!”

There’s still time to buy tickets for the 2026 Goodyear FIA ETRC finale, which is part of the 39th Grand Prix de España FIA Europeo de Camiones weekend. Click HERE for more information.

All four races will be live on YouTube and shown as they happen via broadcasters across Europe and throughout the world.
