Smith grateful after Garrett comes to the rescue in Goodyear FIA ETRC

Bradley Smith has praised Luke Garrett after his fellow competitor helped him to get back on track in the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship.

Smith retired from Race 1 with gearbox failure and faced the prospect of missing the remainder of the Slovakia Ring weekend until rival driver Garrett offered him the use of his spare gearbox that was fitted overnight.

“Luke Garrett leant us their spare gearbox so it was nice of them, hopefully we can get back out there and see what we can do,” Smith said.

Smith’s return to action during this morning’s Warm-up didn’t go entirely to plan after a powersteering issue curtailed his running.

“We went out this morning and the powersteering pump just exploded so not a good weekend,” the Chrome category contender explained. “We’ve got a spare one and hopefully get back out there. Hopefully it’s our one bad weekend out of the way and the rest of the season will go well, we keep our chin up and carry on.”

Smith hopes to be back in action for Qualifying 4-5-6, which along with Race 3 and Race 4, will be live on YouTube.
