Former champion Lacko all set for Goodyear FIA ETRC comeback
Adam Lacko, winner of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship in 2017, won’t be lacking in pace when he makes his long-awaited return to the series this season.
Adam Lacko, winner of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship in 2017, won’t be lacking in pace when he makes his long-awaited return to the series this season.
The Czech star hasn’t raced in the Goodyear FIA ETRC for three years but has no plans to make up the numbers when he contests the Int. ADAC Truck-Grand-Prix at the Nürburgring in July followed by the Czech Truck Prix at Autodrom Most in August.
Although the former European champion will race in the colours of Buggyra, the legendary Czech racing team and truck manufacturer, it has yet to be decided whether Lacko will use the distinctive ‘bonnet’ design Buggyra or compete in a more traditional ‘box’-shape IVECO race truck.
“After a few years, we’re coming back to the European Truck Racing Championship,” Lacko said during the recent pre-season group test at Autodrom Most, where he got behind the wheel of a Team Hahn Racing IVECO as well as his more familiar Buggyra.
“There’s a possibility that we won’t race with our Buggyra, but instead with the classic ‘box’ truck like everyone else. Three years is a long break, and the technical development has moved on a lot. Our Buggyra has always been the most beautiful truck in the championship, but we want to see which one will be faster.”

Lacko continued: “I drove Jochen’s IVECO once back in 2018 during a customer event, so I’m curious to see how much it has evolved since then. It’s still challenging the reigning champion [Norbert] Kiss, so I believe we’ll be competitive. I’ll try to show myself in a good light. I hope fans will come and support us again. Let’s see how it turns out.”
Buggyra Head of Communications Jan Kalivoda said: “We’ve agreed to participate in two races, especially the one in front of our home crowd in Most. We plan to do these two races as a test to understand where the championship is heading under FIA leadership and then decide what to do next. Nürburgring is the biggest celebration of truck racing, but Most is extremely important to us.”
Lacko’s return makes Most a must
Adam Lacko’s return to the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship is already generating huge excitement in his native Czech Republic. To mark the occasion, Autodrom Most has launched the limited-edition Adam Lacko Buggyra FAN PASS.
The Adam Lacko Buggyra FAN PASS includes entry to the Czech Truck Prix, an ETRC fixture for more than 25 years, access to the ever-popular Grid Walk, a personal meet and greet session with the former European champion in the Buggyra team area, plus a sightseeing ride along the Autodrom Most interior roads. Autodrom Most CEO and member of event organiser Automotoklub Most Josef Zajíček, CEO said: “Our goal is for Czech fans to fully enjoy the home races, also thanks to strong local names. Adam Lacko’s return to the championship is therefore great news.
“Adam is an icon, and the home event is a unique opportunity to see him back in action live.”

Countdown to 2026 Goodyear FIA ETRC is go
The 2026 Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship gets under way at World Circuit Misano in Italy from 30-31 May, the first event to take place since the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) assumed full control of the series.
As well as continuing to oversee the Goodyear FIA ETRC’s sporting and technical regulations, the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, is taking a more hands-on approach in running the championship as part of efforts to sustain its long-term growth, covering areas from sporting level to media exposure and sustainability.
