Goodyear Wingfoot Award proving popular in Goodyear FIA ETRC
The new-for-2026 Goodyear Wingfoot Award is proving to be a big hit with Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship drivers following its introduction ahead of the Misano season opener in May.
Also presented in several major series, including the FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series and the British Touring Car Championship, the Goodyear Wingfoot Award recognises driver performance and achievement.
During each Goodyear FIA ETRC event, a panel of experts from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, and Goodyear nominate three drivers following Race 3, based on their overall performance during the race weekend, their sporting behaviour and highlights on track.
Fans then vote for their driver of the weekend via Instagram from the shortlist of candidates during Race 4 with the winner announced as part of the live broadcast coverage of Race 4 and presented with the Goodyear Wingfoot Award on the final podium.
Each Goodyear Wingfoot Award winner also receives six of Goodyear’s new-for-2026 tyre, which is manufactured from 60 per cent sustainable materials.
Based on Goodyear’s iconic winged-foot logo, which is inspired by the Roman god Mercury, the Goodyear Wingfoot Award is designed to further engage fans throughout the season, while highlighting performances and moments that reflect the sporting values of the Goodyear FIA ETRC.
After becoming the first Goodyear FIA ETRC driver to receive the Goodyear Wingfoot Award, a feat he achieved during round one at Misano, seven-time European champion Norbert Kiss said: “It’s a really nice award. Coming from the fans, coming from Goodyear, this award is [already] in some very highly regarded series, so I'm really happy they brought it to truck racing as well. To be the first one in truck racing history to win it, I'm really happy.”
Sascha Lenz was voted as the Goodyear Wingfoot Award recipient at Slovakia Ring, round two of the season in June. He said: “Thank you very much for all the people voting for me. It gives me so much motivation.”
After fans chose him as the Goodyear Wingfoot Award winner for the Nürburgring event earlier this month, six-time champion Jochen Hahn said: “It’s coming from the fans and this makes me very proud, it’s good.”
The Goodyear Wingfoot Award will be presented next in the Goodyear FIA ETRC during round four of the season at Autodrom Most on 30 August. Here’s what some other leading Goodyear FIA ETRC drivers have said about the incentive.
Antonio Albacete: “It’s another incentive to fight in the races because it’s not just a trophy for those who win the races, it’s a trophy that anybody can win. That makes you to be a little bit more incentivised for the races."
Luke Garrett: “It’s something else to aim for and something very interesting.”
Lukas Hahn: “It’s a really nice prize, and I’m happy about it because it’s not only the fastest driver that can win, every driver can win. To have the fans choosing the winner is also very good.”
Steffi Halm: “It’s great to have the Wingfoot Award from Goodyear in the ETRC to get more people into the championship by voting for the drivers. I'm really happy to have it.”
Clemens Hecker: “It’s a good idea because the small teams have also a chance to get it and if we have to chance to get the tyres as well it’s perfect for us.”
John Newell: “It’s a prestigious award and gives everybody an opportunity. And with the free tyres as well it’s always a bonus. It’s a really good incentive.”
Mark Taylor: “It’s good for promoting Goodyear as our sponsor and also our sport. It gets people drawn in and might mean more fans, which can allow the sport to go. I hope it lasts for many years to come and everyone can enjoy it.”
