Kiss leaves it late again, as Lukas Hahn underlines Goodyear FIA ETRC Chrome credentials
Norbert Kiss remains the driver to beat in the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship, building on his Nürburgring Free Practice 1 pace by going quickest in Free Practice 2.
After clocking a 1m54.427s best during the Thursday afternoon heat, the Hungarian hero was able to lower his benchmark to 1m53.097s during this morning’s Free Practice 2, which got under way in slightly cooler conditions at 08:00 local time.
Once again, the MAN-powered Kiss, who is chasing a record-extending eighth Goodyear FIA ETRC title in 2026, set his best lap in the closing moments of the 30-minute session to deny home hero Jochen Hahn the fastest time. Hahn’s best effort at the wheel of his self-built IVECO was a 1m53.207s.
Antonio Albacete was third quickest with Lukas Hahn (below) continuing his pursuit of Chrome category success in fourth followed by Sascha Lenz and Mark Taylor, who is back in action after a troubled Free Practice 1.
René Reinert and Steffi Halm finished up seventh and eighth respectively with returning former FIA ETRC champion Adam Lacko ninth and José Eduardo Rodrigues 10th. The Portuguese, a third-generation FIA ETRC driver, won Race 4 at the Nürburgring last season and is highly rated.
John Newell was 11th fastest with Bradley Smith and Mercedes-driving Luis Recuenco next up. Jonathan André, Stefan Kursch, Luke Garrett, Emma Mäkinen and Clemens Hecker completed the top 18.
In order to avoid gaining an unfair advantage over his rivals, Steffen Faas, who is also contesting the TGP Championship event during this weekend’s Int. Shell ADAC Truck Grand Prix, agreed not to take part in Free Practice 2, having already complete two practice sessions. The Freightliner driver will be back in action for Goodyear FIA ETRC Qualifying 1-2-3 from 11:00 local time.
