Lenz edges ahead in Goodyear FIA ETRC second-place fight
From being joint equal with Antonio Albacete in the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship standings, Sascha Lenz completed the Autodrom Most weekend in second place outright after a highly productive weekend in Czech Republic.
By finishing third once and fourth three times, the German ace banked 36 points to make the provisional runner-up position his own with three events remaining.
“I want to make the most points I can do and after the chequered flag in Jarama we will see,” Lenz said. “We are here to drive on the podium, and I hope it’s enough.
“We had a very nice and successful weekend. We had a great start [in Race 1] and were able to defend our third place throughout the entire race. We’re very happy after the summer break and are taking away a lot of motivation.”
After finishing fourth in Race 2, Lenz scored fourth place again in Race 3 and Race 4, despite a mechanical issue in the final contest of the weekend.
“Unfortunately, Sascha couldn't attack at 100 per cent in the last race, as his clutch knob broke on the first curve after the start, and he couldn’t shift properly as a result,” a social media post from S.L. Truck Sport read. “Nevertheless, he gritted his teeth, made it through the race, and successfully defended the fourth place.
